Brazil 2013
Our trip to Brazil in September/October 2013 was organised by an Ecuadorian company “Neblina Forest” and was led by Xavier Munoz, one of the owners of the company and an experienced wildlife guide. The small group of participants met in Rio de Janeiro and flew to Cuiaba, capital city of Mato Grosso state, from where we set off to explore the Pantanal region via the Transpantaneira road, which terminates at Porto Jofre on the Cuiaba River. On the way there and back we stayed at several cattle ranches that had diversified into ecotourism; Pousada Puival and Fazenda Santa Teresa. After leaving the Pantanal we spent a couple of nights at Pousada Penhasco in the Chapada dos Guimaraes region. We then flew from Cuiaba to Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais state, via San Paulo, to visit the Caraca Monastery for a couple of nights.
