I went to Gabon with a friend, Mike Bird, on a trip organised by Martin Royle of Royle Safaris. We visited a small island in Akanda National Park near Libreville to see Talapoin monkeys then took an overnight train to Ivindo National Park to spend a couple of nights on a viewing platform at Langooue Bai deep in the forest. A long drive took us to Lope National Park where we tracked a large troop of Mandrills. After a few days at Lope we took another overnight train to N’djole from where we drove to the Albert Schweitzer Hospital at Lambarene. The next day we took a small boat along the Ogooue River to the coast and Loango National Park where we visited an habituated group of Western Lowland Gorillas.
